摘要: A potential method for providing traveler information services in some demonstration projects and possibly the final Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) architecture is via the use of an FM subcarrier on an existing channel of the FM broadcast band. The use of FM subcarriers for a variety of applications has along history. More recently, the use of FM subcarriers to transmit road warnings and condition, traveler advisories, emergency situations and navigation information for ITS applications has shown great promise. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration/Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (NTIA/ITS) has begun developing computer programs to assist in the assessment of FM subcarrier performance for ITS applications. These programs assist the engineer in choosing the best FM stations that could provide subcarrier coverage over a desired corridor by predicting the area coverage of stations deploying ITS subcarrier systems. This paper details the use of a program developed by the Institute for Telecommunications Sciences to assist in the choice of FM stations along transportation corridors which will provide an efficient communications infrastructure for ITS using FM subcarriers.
