In today's world, road and road transport has become an integral part of every human being. Everyone is a road user in one shape or the other. The present road transport system has minimized the distances but it has on the other hand increased the life risk. The fast-growing population, exceptional rate of motorization coupled with the ever-growing urbanization have made people vulnerable to frequent road accidents resulting in fatalities, injuries/disabilities. As per Global Status report on Road Safety 2018 more than 1.35 million peoples globally killed every year and about 90% of these casualties are taking place in the developing countries. India ranks first in the number of road accident deaths across the 199 countries and accounts for almost 11% of the accident-related deaths in the World. As per Road accident report, 2019, in our country total of 1,51,113 people died and 4,51,361 people got injured in 4,49,002 number of road accidents during 2019. This causes immense economic hardship and emotional trauma not only to their families but also to the nations as a whole. |
