Climate-change related disasters across the world have accelerated the need for climate-adaptive and resilient infrastructure. We have previously commented in this column on how contracts need to keep pace with the increasing urgency. The ICE's report put this into further focus, stating that infrastructure operates as 'an interconnected "system of systems'" that requires a 'systems thinking approach' to resilience and the adaptation of infrastructure, and recognition that all of the networks, assets and systems are dependent on and interdependent with each other. It therefore suggests a shift from a standalone project approach to a more holistic one. |
