In autumn of 1996 former Secretary of Transportation Federico Pena announced that New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, San Antonio, Phoenix and Seattle were chosen to participate in the Metropolitan Model Deployment Initiative (MDI) program. The program focused on bringing public and private sector partners together in the integrated deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) by integrating existing infrastructure with new traveler information systems. The purpose of this report is to further facilitate the exchange of information and provide agencies embarking on ITS initiatives with advice in two areas: project organization and outreach. |
