This report contains the test procedures, test setup, and test results from two high-speed crash tests conducted at the Federal Outdoor Impact Laboratory (FOIL) located at the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC) in McLean, Virginia. These two tests were conducted as part of a larger test matrix to certify the metric modified eccentric loader National Cooperative Highway Research program (NCHRP) Report 350. The tests were test designations 3-34 and 3-30 as described in NCHRP Report 350. The Ford Festiva two-door hatchback was used as the 820C vehicle described in NCHRP Report 350. Results show the metric-MELT did not satisfy all the safety performance criteria specified by NCHRP Report 350. During one of the tests, the Festiva became unstable while gating through the terminal and rolled over. Results from the tests are presented as test summaries of data; graphs of data from the transducers affixed to the vehicles; and photographs taken before, during, and after the tests. |
