Jackson Civil Engineering has bagged the contract for an estimated £30m scheme to realign a section of the A29 at Barnham near Bognor Regis for West Sussex County Council. The project comprises building a 1.3km stretch of single carriageway with a three-metre wide shared cycleway/footpath In a statement, the council told Highways: 'Phase 1 (north) of the A29 alignment scheme from the A29 south of Eastergate Lane to a new junction with Barnham Road is at the detailed design and planning application stage, with a planning committee decision likely in summer/autumn 2021. 'Jackson Civil Engineering submitted a compliance bid which has been evaluated as being the most economically advantageous to the county council in terms of value for money [and] been procured to carry out the design and build of Phase 1 - with construction dependent on planning consent.' The scheme also includes three roundabouts and landscaping. If it secures planning permission, Jackson could start work this autumn. |
