摘要: It is often said that we are experiencing something of a revolution when it comes to motoring, so let's have a look at what's changing. The drivetrain is going to go to zero tailpipe emissions, on current form probably to battery electric. For those with off-street parking where a chargepoint can be fitted this could mean we rarely need to visit a service station again, maybe just on a long trip. The range of a battery-electric car, the rate at which the battery will accept charge and the battery life are all likely to improve over the next few years, and the number of body-style options available feels like it's growing daily, from SUV to city car and all points in between. So you'll be able to choose the style that suits you and works best for the trips you choose to make. All of which means the change in terms of driving experience will probably feel no more dramatic than the move from heating the kettle on a gas ring to having an electric model that heats the water faster and switches itself off rather than whistling at you - the fundamentals are the same, the process is just a bit better. The next revolutionary development is automation. We've not heard so much about autonomy over the last year, but across the world, development is proceeding, perhaps not quite as quickly as we once thought, but still with a view to high levels of automation reaching showrooms within the decade.
