摘要: A HIGH BEARING CAPACITY SOIL FORMATION WHICH CONSISTS OF COHESIVE SOIL LOSES ITS BEARING CAPACITY UNDER THE EFFECT OF UNFAVOURABLE WEATHERING. THIS CAN BE PREVENTED BY STRENGTHENING THE FORMATION. COVERING THE FORMATION WITH PLASTIC FOILS TO PROTECT IT AGAINST THE EFFECTS OF WEATHERING IS MORE ECONOMICAL THAN STABILISING THE SOIL. GOOD RESULTS WERE OBTAINED FROM SOME SMALL TEST SECTIONS COVERED WITH PLASTIC FOIL NEAR THE MOTORWAY CONSTRUCTION OFFICE AT NUERNBERG DURING THE SUMMER OF 1962. THE PLANNED EXPERIMENTAL ROAD IS TO CLARIFY WHETHER THERE IS A DECREASE IN THE ORIGINAL GOOD BEARING CAPACITY OF THE FORMATION BELOW THE PLASTIC FOIL BROUGHT ABOUT BY THE INCREASE IN WATER AS A RESULT OF CONDENSATION AND BY FROST ACTION.
