Most express coach services in Scotland returned to pre-Covid levels in June, but travel restrictions have delayed many changes in England where Flixbus is continuing to add pressure to National Express. Scottish Citylink returned to pre-Covid levels of service on many routes in early June, including the reintroduction of overnight journeys between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Also reinstated as a 24hr service is Xplore Dundee's coach service to Edinburgh Airport. Now branded as Fly, it runs at 3hr intervals around the clock, using Mercedes-Benz Tourismos that the McGill's-owned company has sourced from the former National Holidays fleet. Citylink - managed by Stagecoach on behalf of its joint venture with ComfortDelGro - also announced an arrangement with transport partnership HiTrans to carry bicycles on some routes from Inverness, also including Stagecoach services to Caithness. Cyclists must cover their bike with a reusable cover, called a sock, to prevent wheels and chains from damaging other luggage. In England, the growth in the delta virus variant has delayed the lifting of many travel restrictions by four weeks, from June 21 to July 19. Although National Express has increased frequencies on many cross-country links to airports, timetables from London to the one-time busy hubs of Luton and Stansted remain limited, with passenger numbers still affected by continuing travel restrictions to foreign destinations. The Oxford Bus Company's Airline service, currently running hourly, remains truncated at Heathrow, with no onward journeys to Gatwick. |
