摘要: Small unitary Torbay Council has increased the number of independent bus routes it subsidises to eight and helped revive a Torquay service axed in 2018, but may withhold nearly £lm from Stagecoach. The Torbay Community Development Trust OurBus route 65 restarted on April 27 using volunteer drivers. It hopes to recruit enough regular subscribers, on top of fares revenue, to sustain it permanently. OurBus routes 61 and 65, Torbay Buses routes 25, 60, 62, 64 and 108/9 and Country Bus routes 15/6 are subsidised for six months whilst the council - which until last July supported no services - reviews service continuation and network capacity. Cllr Mike Morey told Buses: "The routes are funded using the £150,000 committed by Torbay Council and the Department for Transport Covid bus recovery fund. "Without this additional funding some services would have been cancelled and others were likely to have seen a service reduction." Meanwhile - subject to a full vote -the council may withhold a £950,000 concessionary fares payment to dominant operator Stagecoach South West as so few pass holders travelled during the lockdown. It would divert the funds into electric bus infrastructure, free family day out bus travel and highway repairs.
