After an unprecedented COVID-19-disrupted year in 2020, CECE (Committee for European Construction Equipment) predicts a positive environment for business in 2021. "This overall positive assessment can be somewhat mitigated by the uncertainties around COVID vaccinations and the timing of government stimulus packages in Europe and US. What seems evident is that 2021 will not be synonymous of a quick return to pre-crisis levels of sales," summarises Riccardo Viaggi, CECE's secretary general. Sales on the European construction equipment market went down by 6.4% in 2020, according to CECE figures. This seemingly modest drop is due to the performance of high-volume light and compact equipment, whose sales were almost unaffected at -3%. In contrast, heavy construction machinery suffered a 19% fall in sales. Viaggi notes that a Q4 2020 recovery in sales was clearly visible in most product segments. This has boosted overall business confidence, which CECE tracks monthly with its own Business Barometer. |
