The Phase I and II goal of the Global Learning Systems (GLS) Bike 360 degrees (formerly, Safe and Fun: A Prevention Kit) funded by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Institute for Head Injury Prevention (Grants No. 1 R43 CE00138-01 and 02) is to increase safe recreational behavior, particularly around helmet safety. All Phase I objectives were met (or surpassed), all tasks were completed and the multiple feasibility criteria set forth in the Phase I application were exceeded. Furthermore, the Phase I evaluation process identified many helpful suggestions from both students and teachers. These suggestions included: (1) consider using 'extreme sports' examples; (2) use either video or animation; (3) make information 'printable;' (4) provide collateral materials such as teacher guides; (5) 'chunk' information in 15 minute long modules; and (6) some of the elements could be teacher directed, but the program would be most useful if it could be designed as an individual, child-directed, or 'centers' activity. The design team considered each of these recommendations in the development of the full program. / Supplementary Notes: Sponsored by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, GA. / Availability Note: Order this product from NTIS by: phone at 1-800-553-NTIS (U.S. customers); (703)605-6000 (other countries); fax at (703)605-6900; and email at orders@ntis.gov.
