| 摘要： | This Task investigated the general question of environmental education from the standpoint of the shipyard industry. Personal interviews were conducted with environmental managers in several shipyards, with the academic community, and with representatives of related industries. The Report contains a listing of the environmental regulations and statutes that bear on environmental education. Analysis of the findings suggests that environmental education programs in most shipyards are limited to what is required by the regulations. Little or no additional environmental education is being conducted. This situation is inconsistent with the need for shipyards to become so environmentally capable and responsive that they can enjoy a competitive position in the international marketplace despite the cost of responding to the environmental demands placed upon them. One key to achieving this capability is expanded and in-depth environmental training and education, especially for those shipyard personnel who regularly face conditions that demand a comprehensive understanding of the environmental regulations and how best to meet the challenges of compliance. The Report describes representative academic offerings currently available, at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The Report also identifies 10 training modules covering specific environmental topics that were identified as needing treatment, but missing from the current arsenal of training materials. The Report encourages participation by the shipyard industry in the Partnership for Environmental Technology Education (PETE). This promising program will link the technical resources of the DOE, EPA, and NASA laboratories, and private industry, with participating community colleges to assist in the development and presentation of curricula for training environmental hazardous material technicians. / NOTE:Final rept.
