THE STUDY IS CONCERNED WITH THE ILLUSTRATION OF ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION IN THE MEDIA. A RANDOM SAMPLE OF NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINES AND JOURNALS ARE BEING ANALYSED FOR THEIR CONTENT; THE STUDY IS BEING SUPPLEMENTED BY A COARSE ANALYSIS OF TELEVISION ADVERTISEMENTS AND SELECTED DISCUSSION PROGRAMMES. THE OBJECT IS TO DETERMINE HOW FAR ADVERTISING USES STEREOTYPES IN RESPECT OF THE DRINKING SITUATION AND DRINKING PATTERNS, HOW THESE ARE LINKED TO INDIVIDUAL PRODUCTS, AND HOW THESE IMAGES MAY BECOME RELEVANT TO THE PROBLEM OF ALCOHOL AND DRIVING. BY MEANS OF AN ANALYSIS OF THE EDITORIAL SECTIONS OF PRINTED MEDIA AND BY ANALYSING SOME DISCUSSION BROADCASTS, IT IS INTENDED TO OBTAIN INFORMATION OF THE PICTURE OF ALCOHOL BUILT UP BY THE MEDIA AS A WHOLE. |
