THE FOLLOW-UP STUDY OF A STRUCTURE MUST ENABLE ABNORMAL BEHAVIOUR TO BE DETECTED EITHER IN THE FOUNDATIONS, BEARINGS OR DECK. THE PROBLEM VARIES ACCORDING TO THE TYPES OF STRUCTURES, THE TYPE OF BEARINGS AND THE TYPES OF FOUNDATIONS. IT IS USUALLY RECOMMENDED TO CONDUCT A FOLLOW-UP STUDY BY LEVELLING PERPENDICULARLY TO EACH BEARING AND IN THE MIDDLE OF A SPAN. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER APPROACHED FROM THE INTERACTION OF THE USE OF MEASUREMENTS AND THE CHARACTERISTICS THE LATTER MUST HAVE, EG DEFINITION OF WHAT MEASUREMENTS ARE USEFUL AND THE ACCURACY THEY MUST REACH. THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO ANSWER THIS TWO-FOLD QUESTION IN THE DIFFERENT CASES MENTIONED ABOVE. IN 1979, AN ATTEMPT WILL BE MADE TO DEFINE AND TEST A FOLLOW-UP STUDY METHODOLOGY FOR MASONRY STRUCTURES WITH FOUNDATIONS LOCATED IN RIVERS. ONLY KNOWN TECHNIQUES WILL BE INVESTIGATED. |
