摘要: SAFETY FENCES ARE OFTEN EQUIPPED WITH DEFORMABLE DAMPING ELEMENTS OR WITH NON-DEFORMABLE SPACERS, BUT SOMETIMES THESE ELEMENTS ARE NOT PROVIDED. SINCE THERE IS LITTLE INFORMATION ON THE USEFULNESS OF DAMPING ELEMENTS AND NO SPECIFICATIONS FOR THESE EXIST, DESIGN IS LEFT TO THE INDIVIDUAL MANUFACTURERS AND IS NOT ALWAYS BASED ON FIRMLY ESTABLISHED PRINCIPLES. THE OBJECT OF THE RESEARCH IS TO FIND A DAMPING ELEMENT WHICH IS SUITABLE FOR RIGID BRIDGE PARAPETS BY MEANS OF COMPRESSION TESTS CARRIED OUT IN THE LABORATORY. THE DAMPING AND SPACING ELEMENTS MOST FREQUENTLY USED IN SWITZERLAND ARE BEING EXAMINED AND COMPARED WITH AN ANNULAR DAMPING ELEMENT PROPOSED BY ISETH (INSTITUT FUER STRASSEN-, EISENBAHN- UND FELSBAU). AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF THE STATIC LABORATORY TESTS THIS WILL BE TESTED DYNAMICALLY BY MEANS OF COLLISION TESTS.
