THE BEHAVIOUR OF SOILS OF VARYING FINE PARTICLE CONTENT UNDER LOAD IMPULSES WHICH PLASTICIZE THEM |
摘要: |
IN THE LAST DECADE INCREASING USE HAS BEEN MADE OF FREE-FALL TAMPERS TO TURN SOFT COHESIVE SOIL HAVING A PROPORTION OF FINE CONSTITUENTS INTO SUITABLE FOUNDATION SOIL. THE DROPS WERE AS MUCH AS 40 M AND THE WEIGHTS AS MUCH AS 40 TONS. IT WAS SHOWN THAT THESE IMPULSE LOADINGS DID NOT ALWAYS RESULT IN THE DESIRED COMPACTION. IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH WHETHER THIS COMPACTION TECHNIQUE CAN BE RESTRICTED TO COHESIVE SOILS WHICH ARE WATER-SATURATED AND HAVE VARYING AMOUNTS OF CLAY, MODEL TESTS WERE CONDUCTED IN WHICH THE FREE-FALL TAMPING PROCEDURE WAS SIMULATED. IT WAS SHOWN THAT THE RESULTS OBTAINED ON THE CONSTRUCTION SITE CORRELATED WELL WITH THOSE OF THE MODEL TEST. THE OBJECT IS TO CREATE A MORE ACCURATE FORECAST OF THE RESULTS OF USING THE FREE-FALL TAMPING METHOD ON VARIOUS TYPES OF WATER-SATURATED SOIL CONTAINING FINE PARTICLES. |
