ON THE BASIS OF AVAILABLE DATA FROM A QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY MADE IN 1970, EMPIRICAL VALUES ARE TO BE DERIVED ON THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS OF COMMUTING TRAFFIC: TIME OF DAY AND PLACE OF THE START AND FINISH OF THE JOURNEY; DURATION OF COMMUTER JOURNEYS; SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNEYS; MODE OF TRANSPORT USED FOR THE OUTWARD AND RETURN JOURNEY FOR JOURNEYS WHERE THERE WAS A CHOICE OF TRANSPORT MODE (RAIL AND AIRCRAFT). THE OBJECT IS TO SEE WHETHER GROUP RELATED BEHAVIOUR IN THE CHOICE OF TRANSPORT MODE CAN BE DEFINED, AND TO SEE WHETHER FROM THIS ANY CONCLUSIONS CAN BE DRAWN WITH RESPECT TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MODAL SPLIT MODEL FOR COMMUTER TRAFFIC. |
