THE EFFECT OF CRASH BARRIERS ON ROAD SAFETY |
摘要: |
THE OBJECT OF THE RESEARCH WAS TO ESTABLISH WHETHER AND TO WHAT EXTENT CRASH BARRIERS CAN REDUCE THE CONSEQUENCES OF ACCIDENTS AND THUS INCREASE SAFETY. THE STUDY WAS BASED ON ACCIDENTS IN HESSE IN 1976. ABOUT 2000 RUNNING OFF THE ROAD ACCIDENTS WERE STUDIED. PERSONAL INJURIES AND MATERIAL DAMAGE IN THE ACCIDENTS ON ROADS BOTH WITH AND WITHOUT SAFETY FENCES WERE DETERMINED, AND THE COSTS OF THESE COMPARED WITH THE COSTS OF INSTALLING THE CRASH BARRIERS. RESULTS INDICATED THE ECONOMIC JUSTIFICATION OF ERECTING CRASH BARRIERS ON MOTORWAYS. |
