STUDY OF PASSENGER SAFETY IN CASE OF COLLISION INVOLVING PUBLIC TRANSPORT VEHICLE |

BECAUSE OF THE COSTS OF ACCIDENTS TO THE OPERATORS AND THE COMMUNITY, PASSENGER SAFETY IN VARIOUS PUBLIC TRANSPORT MODES IS A PROBLEM OF INCREASING IMPORTANCE, WHICH DEPENDS ON A NUMBER OF FACTORS AND CAN REFLECT VARIOUS ASPECTS. THE KINEMATICS OF THE SEATED OCCUPANT DEPENDS ON THE GEOMETRY, COVERING AND POSITIONING OF THE SEAT AND CAN BE MODIFIED BY VARYING DIFFERENT SUPPORT SYSTEMS. THE RISK TO THE OCCUPANT IS A FUNCTION OF KINEMATICS, AND OF THE RELATION BETWEEN THE AVAILABLE SPACE AND SAFETY SPACE, AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL STRUCTURES ABLE TO CAUSE INJURIES. THE SAFETY OF THE STANDING PASSENGER MUST BE CONSIDERED SEPARATELY AND THE LACK OF EQUILIBRIUM MUST BE INVESTIGATED ACCORDING TO THE DIRECTION OF THE SHOCK TO WHICH THE PASSENGER IS SUBJECTED AND TO THE PRESENCE OF ACTIVE RESTRAINT AND SUPPORT SYSTEMS. SOME OF THESE BIOMECHANICAL ASPECTS COULD BE STUDIED EFFICIENTLY FOR IMPACTS ADAPTED TO SPECIFIC TRANSPORT MODES AND IMPACTS AT MODERATE SPEEDS. THESE STUDIES CAN BE CARRIED OUT WITH ANTHROPOMETRIC DUMMIES OR HUMAN VOLUNTEERS ON DYNAMIC TEST RIGS AND ON THE TRACK BY MEANS OF A SPECIALLY ADAPTED PLATFORM. |
