摘要: A CONTROL MODEL WAS DEVELOPED FOR CHANGEABLE TRAFFIC SIGNING IN THE RHINE-MAIN AREA WHICH CONTAINS ASSUMPTIONS WHICH CAN ONLY BE CONFIRMED OR CORRECTED AFTER AN ASSESSMENT OF TRAFFIC DATA COLLECTED DURING THE OPERATION OF THE FACILITY. TWO FACTORS WHICH ARE CLOSELY RELATED HAVE TO BE ANALYSED: (1) - SHORT-TERM FORECASTING; (2) - ESTIMATION OF TRAFFIC STREAMS FROM CROSS-SECTIONAL MEASUREMENTS. CONTROL MEASURES HAVE AN EFFECT OVER A FORECASTED PERIOD OF TIME WHICH IN THE RHINE-MAIN AREA WAS HALF AN HOUR AND WAS BASED ON THREE SETS OF DATA: (1) - TRENDS IN THE CROSS-SECTIONAL LOADING AT THE MEASURING POINTS; (2) - EXPECTED VALUES OF CROSS-SECTIONAL LOADING OBTAINED FROM TRAFFIC COUNTS; (3) - THE TIME-SPACE PROGRESSION OF MOVEMENTS OF VEHICLE COLLECTIVES IN THE SURVEILLANCE AREA. SUPERIMPOSITION OF THE 3 PART FORECASTS LEADS TO A SHORT-TERM FORECAST WHICH ALLOWS THE DETERMINING CHARACTERISTIC VALUES (JOURNEY TIMES AND CONGESTION) TO BE CALCULATED. UP TO NOW THIS CALCULATION HAS NEEDED A LOT OF COMPUTER STORE AND TIME. THE OBJECT OF THE RESEARCH IS TO CHECK ANY SIMPLIFICATIONS WHICH COULD BE MADE IN THE CONTROL PROGRAM, WHICH WOULD RELEASE THE COMPUTER FOR OTHER WORK WITHOUT THE ASSOCIATED LOSS OF INFORMATION LEADING TO ANY REDUCTION IN THE QUALITY OF THE CONTROL.
