Development of Comprehensive Roadmap and Resource Guide Towards Congestion Reduction
项目名称: Development of Comprehensive Roadmap and Resource Guide Towards Congestion Reduction
摘要: Despite decades of research and efforts, congestion has been a growing traffic concern across the world and in the U.S. This phenomenon, characterized by the disruption of transportation networks due to traffic interference, varies by roadway type, geographic location, and time of the day. Congestion disturbs society in many ways that are beyond the transportation systems. It is not only time-consuming and costly, but can also negatively affect people’s health, quality of life, and the environment (e.g., pollution, noise, and stress). With technological advances, there are several ways transportation agencies can mitigate congestion. Although various congestion mitigation endeavors are available and innovative technologies are emerging, a comprehensive roadmap and a resource guide towards congestion reduction are essential and needed. The major objective of this proposed project is to develop a comprehensive roadmap for congestion reduction, including the major and emerging mitigation areas recognized by previous research. In addition to the roadmap, the project team will also create a comprehensive resource guide that will further assist not only transportation agencies, but also other transportation practitioners, researchers, and students interested in the topic. The roadmap and resource guide can also serve as an important decision-making tool for congestion reduction strategies, infrastructure and technology investment, policies, and legislation, and it can provide a vision for transportation professionals and industries working in congestion mitigation areas.
