Maritime multimodal infrastructures are complex systems with extensive data about usage and the
condition of maritime assets. In addition, this infrastructure has multiple stakeholders with conflicting
objectives. Trade-off analytics is a systems engineering technique to use Model Based Engineering and
descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to balance the trade-offs between these objectives.
This project will develop an online course (adaptable to a professional development or graduate level
course) to teach trade-off analytics with a maritime and multimodal infrastructure focus. The course
will present trade-off analytics best practices through the entire infrastructure cycle, from the initial
steps of identifying the infrastructure stakeholders and the initial asset decision, to the complex
portfolio analyses to maintain or replace the assets. The course will present a Multiple Objective
Decision Analysis (MODA) framework which has proven effective in other industries such as pharma, oil
and gas, and the military to the maritime and multimodal infrastructure community. This course will
have a strong emphasis on practical application, using publicly available maritime multimodal
infrastructure data sets and demonstrating implementation of trade-off analytics techniques in a
Microsoft Excel environment. |
