摘要: The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is experiencing corrosive effects of road salt and snow and ice chemicals on bridge piers of overhead structures. The department is interested in determining the best method of protecting both newly constructed and previously constructed bridge piers. Currently the majority of the bridge piers are protected with an epoxy urethane coating. Over the years the epoxy urethane coating is worn off leaving the bare concrete exposed to direct exposure to snow and ice chemicals and abrasives. ODOT is interested in the preservation of its assets. Bridge piers are an integral component of a structure asset and must be preserved. The department wishes to maintain/protect these assets in a way that will provide longer life and shorter cycles between maintenance/repair/replacement. The objective of this research is to test the products recommended in phase 1 and determine their effectiveness. The research will conduct a cost benefit analysis and evaluation of all products recommended for phase 2.
