The objectives of this project are to: (1) Document statewide practices and lessons learned for installation acceptance tests and monitoring for accuracy and consistency of vehicle detection systems (VDS). (2) Provide estimates on accuracy, consistency and reliability levels of currently deployed VDS technologies. (3) Determine the minimum level of accuracy/consistency for VDS such that traffic applications (travel time posting, express lanes, ramp metering, etc) can perform as intended. (4) Based on field data, estimate the main factors affecting accuracy and consistency of deployed VDS over time. (5) Provide estimates on failure modes, repair times and costs for VDS, suggest improvements on maintenance practices, and cost savings. |
