The objective of Phase 1 of this project was to investigate the potential of resistivity testing in assessing the performance of typical concrete mixtures used in bridge and pavement infrastructure in Oklahoma. The sensitivity and reliability of the method with Oklahoma materials was investigated in order to formulate new guidelines and specification(s) that would allow the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) to produce high quality concrete. The study evaluated the use of resistivity to evaluate field structures and indicated promise to make great changes to the quality and long term performance of Oklahoma concrete. Based on Phase 1 research activities, in Phase 2, a systematic approach using resistivity testing for Classes A and AA concrete mixture design compliance control during construction will be developed. Additionally, a temperature correction factor to rectify results of resistivity measurements taken outside of the test method�s recommended temperature range will be developed. Within the devised experimental plan, an extensive trial study within ODOT residencies will be conducted. This will help with the validation process of the resistivity method developed and the implementation process within the residencies. Finally, an alternative method will be recommended in the event a sample fails to meet the specification. This aids in evaluating the adequacy of the material constructed onsite. As such, an alternative secondary resistivity testing procedure, in case of failed material compliance test, will be investigated. The results of this study will aid in devising a strategy for easy implementation of the resistivity method within material quality control and compliance activities. |
