For an edge drain to work effectively, it relies on the condition of the entire subsurface drainage system, which includes the perforated drainage conduit, headwall, confining drainage layer within the pavement block, and the aggregate trench that conveys the water to the conduit. Concerns have been expressed over the years about the long‐term effectiveness of edge drains, both those that were part of original design/construction and those retrofit as part of a rehabilitation or widening project. |
