Urbanization, with a smaller proportion of the total population in rural areas, poses a potential risk of increased mobility for those who continue to live in rural areas. Today's focus on investigations for finding solutions for urban transport is likely to neglect the living conditions and the accessibility for people in rural areas. Today, very little focus is added on finding transport solutions that manage rural accessibility, mobility and sustainability. Also in parts of the country outside metropolitan and other urbanized areas, the new possibilities with digitalization, such as information and communication technologies (ICT) and automation, should be utilized. Further, the inclusion of various types of new business models that are on the rise, both in terms of ownership of vehicles and services, seem to have potential to be developed for conditions in rural areas. The study is expected to provide a basis for the alignment of a research programme planned by the Swedish Transport Administration. The goal of the study is of preparatory nature which means display the state and development potential - and does not formulate specific research questions but identify research fields that will be specified at a later stage. The project will be implemented by an overview of existing knowledge, interviews, analysis and reporting. |
