Developing a Surface Drainage Rating for Inclusion in TxDOTs Asset Management System
项目名称: Developing a Surface Drainage Rating for Inclusion in TxDOTs Asset Management System
摘要: Drainage assets along the Texas roadway network play a pivotal role in its overall performance. These roadway and roadside assets are diverse, and the role each asset plays in a sections drainage is as diverse as the assets themselves. As Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) pushes agencies toward comprehensive asset management, it is imperative to better understand and rate all assets. On the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) website, the Map-21 requirements for a comprehensive risk-based asset management plan are described. Per Map-21 legislation, each state is required to develop a risk-based asset management plan for the National Highway System (NHS). While the legislative requirement is only for pavements and bridges, the legislation requires the Secretary to encourage states to include all assets within the right-of-way. This project will lay the groundwork for these additional assets to be included. While Map-21 only requires this for pavements and bridges, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is embarking on a proactive path as it seeks to capture its drainage assets and their current health. The research team will develop a drainage rating system aided by the collection of data through automated means. In a forward thinking move, TxDOT will take advantage of laser scanning technology to assist in the collection of infrastructure data. The research team will use its laser scanning data collector to not only develop a drainage rating system for the network level; it will also further evaluate automated collection techniques for use at the project level.
