摘要：	Iowa State University's (ISU) Institute for Transportation (InTrans) plans to partner with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) to develop and offer engineering and leadership training for high school students in Iowa. Engineering, leadership and teamwork are key elements of the activities conducted by InTrans for the Midwest Transportation Center (MTC), and this partnership will be valuable for both parties. The purpose of these partnerships is to threefold: (1) to introduce Iowa high school students to the professional world of engineering with a focus on transportation; (2) provide high school students with leadership training; and (3) to educate students to effectively work in teams. InTrans and the Iowa DOT will collaboratively develop and offer a summer learning experience, in the form of a workshop, for 15 high school students. The workshop will take place one day per week for five weeks. The goal for this collaboration is to further student learning on engineering concepts, introduce students to engineering professions, expose students to team building activities, and develop their critical thinking and leadership skills. InTrans will provide engineers to serve as speakers, teach hands-on activities, and/or talk to students about the engineering profession, leadership and importance of teamwork. Project development is estimated to take approximately three months, beginning March 2015. Project implementation will begin June 2015 and end July 2015. Evaluation and assessment of the project will be completed by December 2015. Research Plan: Task 1: Develop Implementation Plan; Task 2: Determine Date and Facilitator; Task 3: Training Development; Task 4: Student Recruitment; Task 5: Professional Involvement; Task 6: Development of Assessment and Evaluation; and Task 7: Launching Training.
