The FY 2002 Department of Transportation and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (P.L. 107-87) made available $56.3 million of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Revenue Aligned Budget Authority funds for the Border Infrastructure Program (BIP). These funds are to support the construction and improvement of motor carrier safety inspection facilities along the US-Mexico border. The objective of the program is twofold: the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles operating in the United States, and improved traffic flow at the border crossings in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. |
