摘要: The research on noise created by the tire/pavement interface, while relatively new, has seen considerable interest over the past few years because of the potential benefits and an general desire by the public for quieter highways. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) uses many different pavement mixes based on performance testing. Performance testing for the sound generation from the roadway has been accomplished in the past using wayside measurements. The primary reason for this research was to investigate the sound (noise) generation caused by the tire/pavement interface, how it relates to the wayside noise, the trends related to the various pavement types measured, and explore modeling possibilities. Trends for future modeling were identified and evaluated. The report describes the equipment used, the collection of data, the analysis, and presents conclusions for both the on-board sound intensity (OBSI) method and concurrent wayside sound level measurements for multiple pavement types in Florida. The work was conducted in the State of Florida at 18 different locations with some locations repeated for quality control purposes. / Title Note: Final rept. / Supplementary Notes: Sponsored by Florida State Dept. of Transportation, Tallahassee. / Availability Note: Order this product from NTIS by: phone at 1-800-553-NTIS (U.S. customers); (703)605-6000 (other countries); fax at (703)605-6900; and email at orders@ntis.gov.
