An aluminum replaceable pad track, capable of utilizing existing T-156 track hardware, was analyzed using both empirical and finite element analyses. The track was to be interchangeable with the current T-156 track at a minimum weight penalty. Such a track was analyzed and its load carrying capability in tension and torsional loads were predicted by correlating track load with block stress and comparing that with the strength levels of ingot metallurgy aluminum alloys, and powder metallurgy aluminum alloys. The former offering the best combination of material properties and economics, the latter of offering the best combination of metal strength, ductility, and toughness. |
