ITE JOURNAL: Give us a little background on your career before coming to ITE. How have these past positions helped prepare you for your new role? STEVE KUCIEMBA: I've been blessed with the opportunity to work in the public, private, and non-profit sectors over the past 36 years. I've been in transportation from the very beginning-starting with engineering level activities with General Motors and quickly advancing into various levels of both management and engineering activities at the Maryland State Highway Administration and later at SmartRoute Systems, a high-tech travel information provider. I got to work on some exciting projects, gathered a lot of useful knowledge, and built up some great contacts. At both my next two jobs, ITS America and Parsons Brinckerhoff (later acquired by WSP), the opportunity to start leveraging that early foundation unfolded-while also continuing to gain additional valuable experience, staying current with industry trends, and further expanding my contacts and visibility. Among many things, ITS America helped me appreciate what it takes to be a successful leader in the association world. Likewise, WSP helped me appreciate what it takes to be a leading voice in our industry. All of that has brought me to this point today-ready to step-up and lead ITE as we progress further into this decade. |
