It was 30 years ago this year that I attended my first ITE meeting. I was a student at Montana State University, and had recently completed a transportation engineering course, which I had enjoyed. Hearing of my transportation interests, my professor, Dr. Joe Armijo, convinced me to come with him to an ITE meeting. We didn't yet have a Student Chapter at Montana State, so Joe took me to the Inter-mountain Section meeting in Jackson Hole, WY, USA. If you ever attended the meeting in Jackson, then you know why I was forever hooked on ITE. As a student and young professional, it was there that I met international presidents like Jim Pline, Rich Romer, Tim Harpst, and many more approachable and generous leaders. They welcomed me in and encouraged me as I was getting started in the profession. The casual camaraderie of the Jackson Hole meeting was something special. It was the best place I can imagine getting my start in ITE. |
