摘要: Growth in global seaborne trade continued to lose momentum in the final months of 2022, resulting in a 0.7% year-on-year decline in international freight shipments to 11.88 billion tons, according to Clarkson Research in its latest Seaborne Trade Monitor. According to the report, the main factors behind this weak result include Russia's attack on Ukraine and reactions to it, disadvantageous macroeconomic indicators and, in particular, a noticeable decline of economic growth in China and pressure on consumers in the countries of Western Europe, Northeast Asia and North America. Only during the course of the current year are markets expected to recover slightly and seaborne trade to grow by 1.5% over the year, but the pressure on the relatively weak global economy will continue. The largest part of the expected increase in the current year, according to expectations, will be the energy sector, which will experience an increase of about 2.6%. Experts also expect an increase in maritime trade in dry bulk goods by 1.3%. After a slump of 3.% in 2022, the container trade is also expected to show a negative development in 2023. However, at -1.6%, it is expected to be considerably less severe than in the past year.
