摘要：	The two main objectives of this study were: (1) to determine the value of Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS) to drivers in the Philadelphia area; and (2) to determine the usage and awareness of the SmartTraveler Service in the Philadelphia area. A survey of more than 1,100 residents in the greater Philadelphia area targeting the evaluation of travel information usage and the SmartTraveler service is presented in this memorandum. First the background and design of the survey are presented and the outcome of process followed in conducting the study is explained. The key findings of the study include: (1) a substantial proportion of respondents seek travel information; (2) travel information is sought when time and arrival time are critical factors; (3) information is useful when there is bad weather and/or congestion; (4) commercial radio is the most effective medium for disseminating travel information followed by variable message signs and television; and (5) a small percentage (13.3 percent) of the respondents was aware of the service provided by SmartTraveler; and of those that accessed the SmartTraveler service, there was a favorable opinion of the information provided.
