This report sumarizes the results of the three components of the 1984 NCTCOG Regional Travel Survey. Where possible, the data is compared to results from the 1964 Survey to examine the changes in travel patterns and trip characteristics over the past 20 years. The results of the Regional Travel Survey have implications on both the amount and pattern of travel in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The Survey indicated that over the past 20 years, the number of person trips per person has substantially increased. At the same time, auto occupancy in the region has declined causing an even greater increase in the number of vehicle trips per person. The average trip length has also increased for all trip purposes. All of these factors have contributed to the increase in vehicle miles of travel in the region. |
