Under the ONE ITE initiative, the Kansas Section of ITE (KSITE) was recently elevated from a Chapter to a Section. KSITE says the transition was relatively smooth, partly in thanks to the work of Past President Janelle Clayton, P.E., PTOE (M). Though there were initially some hiccups during the IRS process to get KSITE to exempt tax status, it eventually all came together as Janelles persistence and patience on many calls during the months-long process to get the new Section up and running. KSITE noticed a few key differences after its status was elevated. The Section is now responsible for the entire state of Kansas, where previously the Chapter just included a portion of the state. Previously, the Section mostly included the Kansas City (KC) metro area. The biggest change is how membership dues are collected. As a Section, membership dues are now handled through ITE and are included in members' annual ITE membership, whereas previously, membership dues were collected and handled directly by the Chapter itself. KSITE was not only transitioning from a Chapter to a Section, but also transitioning from a year of COVID protocols to a year of more normalcy. Most Section meetings in 2022 were held in person at fun venues. A silver lining of COVID for the Section was learning how to hold virtual meetings and accomplish trainings from afar, if needed. KSITE's goal moving forward as a new Section is figuring out methods for using virtual/in-person mixed formats, hopefully making it possible to include more of professionals from across the state. In the coming months, KSITE plans to create even more opportunities for members in the state that may be 5 to 7 hours away from what was previously the Chapter region. |
