Portable lifts are the now-you-see-them, now-you-don't workhorses of your shop. They take up no floor space until you have a vehicle to lift. Then you set one up in a flat bay, and when the job is done, you put it away to free the bay for other work. To expand that versatility, lift manufacturers have designed new portable lifts to serve a range of applications. In addition to traditional low-rise and mid-rise scissor lifts, portable lifts today include Quickjack low-rise lifts with independent frames, two-post lifts and heavy-duty mobile columns. Each of these portable lift designs saves space in shops to help boost service capability. Here's a rundown of key elements of each type: D Low-rise/mid-rise scissor lifts lift vehicles just a few feet off the ground. They are often used for wheel service, suspension work and auto detailing. They offer ample working space around the vehicle, although access to the vehicle undercarriage is limited. For shops that need to lift vehicles over a pit, low-rise/mid-rise scissor lifts cost-effectively allow techs to stand up straight when working under a low ceiling without permanent, space-consuming fixtures. |
