摘要: ON SEPT. 28,2022, Hurricane Ian made landfall on the Gulf Coast of Florida just south of Manatee County. Ian's path brought its eyewall across the southeast portion of Manatee County with hurricane-force wind and rain bands stretching across the entire county from Anna Maria Island to Myakka City. Manatee County Public Works responded in the aftermath of this Category 4 storm that brought widespread damage with significant impacts on critical traffic infrastructure across the 893 square miles of county area. The storm caused extensive wind damage across the western portion of the county and severe wind and flooding damages in the eastern portions of the county. This is the first time in almost 100 years that Manatee County has experienced a direct impact from a storm of this magnitude. However, over the decades the county has experienced numerous close calls, each one being a learning experience and opportunity for public works to better prepare for the next event.
