As many Highways readers may already know, the TTF is a Department for Transport (DfT) and Innovate UK-sponsored gathering of those developing and selling transport - largely highway-related - technology and those responsible for managing local highways, ie the suppliers of and potential customers for clever products that should help with the biggest challenges we face: getting the most out of our roads within incredibly constrained budgets. The TTF in its current form has been running for around six years, and I do what I can to help as its independent chair for events and for the programme board, so I have been able to see how things have developed. I am pleased to report there has been tangible progress: as matters stand we are in the happy position of being oversubscribed for events and too tight for time to include all the material and presentations we might otherwise seek to cover. But the real progress that I have seen has been in the growing understanding that's developed between suppliers and customers. Wind back a few years and our challenge was that we were engaging, broadly, with two tribes, each with their own languages, perspectives and issues but no evident understanding of each other. |
