New guidance has been launched to support local authorities with the latest intelligent transport systems (ITS) and traffic technology. The Manual for Smart Streets was unveiled at the Transport Technology Forum (TTF) conference in Leeds in late April, having been produced by the TTF and Connected Places Catapult. It includes use cases on how traffic signal technology could connect to vehicles in the future and how new sources of data can connect with and inform services in the local authority. It also provides recommendations for cyber security. The new manual is based on the Manual for Streets, which the TTF said has become an essential document for anyone delivering a local road network in the 15 years since its publication. 'The Manual for Smart Streets will become a sister resource to that and just as essential in the months and years to come,' it added.' Darren Capes, ITS policy lead at the Department for Transport, said: 'The Manual for Smart Streets is a major new reference document for local authorities to guide authorities in using technology to deliver service, both existing and new. |
