In the United States (US), the accepted metric for environmental noise impact is the DayNight Sound Level (Ldn). Europe and Japan are now moving to the use of the DayEvening-Night Sound Level (Lden). Knowing how well the two metrics correlate will be essential in comparing assessments of environmental noise and in considering whether a change for assessments carried out in the United States (US) will be advisable. The contractor will analyze the data for each of the sites contained in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) report "Community Noise" (December 31, 1971, NTID300.3) and determine the level of correlation between Ldn and Lden. The contractor's analysis shall, to the extent possible, present the results for the aggregate of all measurement sites and, to the extent possible, stratified by types of community and, where there is a dominant source, by source type. The contractor shall compile this information in a draft report to be submitted to the Government, which will review and comment on the report. After the review by the Government, the contractor shall revise and submit a final report to the Government. |
