The Department for Infrastructure (Dfl) is one of nine Northern Ireland government departments, with responsibility for regional strategic planning and development policy, as well as managing much of the public infrastructure. With a team in excess of 3,000 people, we have central responsibility for three main areas in Northern Ireland - water; transport, both in terms of the road network and also public transport; and strategic planning. As the chief highway engineer for Northern Ireland, I am ultimately responsible for upholding the engineering standards that determine the look and feel of our road network, to ensure it is developed in a safe and sustainable manner. In my directorate, I am also responsible for the operations and maintenance teams, who carry out routine maintenance of the network, so the assets are kept in a serviceable condition. |
