The official guidance, HSE publication HSG136 - A guide to workplace transport safety, simply states: "There should be safe access to the 'fifth wheel' (the area behind the cab, where the trailer connects to the tractor unit), for example steps, a handrail and a suitable platform that provides good grip. This area should be kept clean and clear to make slipping or tripping less likely." |
