Latest figures from the Department for Transport for bus use in England show a small but welcome increase outside London, lifting numbers into the 70-80% range during February. The picture is complicated by regional variations in the date of the half-term school holiday, while disruption from Storm Eunice on February 18 reduced numbers to 44% of normal. However, the picture for individual operators is mixed, with driver shortages still causing reductions and cancellations in some places. Elsewhere, operators are slowly restoring frequencies, with Go North East resuming normal timetables from February 19, and Arriva increasing in Liverpool, but cutting back in Wrexham. |
