Greater Manchester's proposed Clean Air Zone, which was expected to come into force at the end of May, has been 'paused' to a yet-to-be determined date. Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and the area's councils made the case to Government for the postponement, primarily based on a finding that economic conditions had severely limited the availability of new compliant commercial vehicles, as well as substantially increased their cost. The Government has agreed with the proposals, and now requires the conurbation to draw up a new scheme that will achieve air quality compliance by the end of 2026, rather than the previous deadline of 2024. |
