Although the UK is living with new variants of Covid-19, the advent of vaccines mean people are trying to live a 'new normal' life. National Express is continuing to build a robust network of services, but not in the same way as pre-Covid; gone are the cross-country mega-routes - no National Express coaches in Scotland travel further north than Glasgow and Edinburgh and no Scottish Cross-Country routes travel further south than Birmingham; Scottish coaches no longer call at Plymouth or Bournemouth. National Express coaches still plough the London road from Scotland on services 590, 591, 594 and 595. These services are operated by Bruce Coaches. Additional services 597 and 598 operated by Park's of Hamilton are no longer running. Bruce Coaches also runs the four regional services from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Birmingham via the East and West coasts: services 180, 181, 182 and 183. Bruce Coaches held the contracts for all but two of the National Express mega-routes up to March 24, 2020: these being - 590: Aberdeen to London (day service); 591: Edinburgh to London (day service); 594: Edinburgh to London (night service); 588: Inverness - up until September 17, 2017, then - Glasgow to London (night service); service 920: Kilmarnock/Cairnryan Harbour to London (night service); service 334: Glasgow to Bournemouth via Edinburgh (night service); service 539: Edinburgh to Bournemouth (day service). Park's of Hamilton held the other two contracts for mega-routes: service 592: Aberdeen to London (night service) and service 336: Edinburgh to Plymouth (night service). |
