摘要: The South East Bus Festival on Saturday April 2 will be the first major event of the year to mark the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Leyland National. "We already have several preserved Leyland Nationals entered and we hope to receive a lot more entries over the next few weeks so that a display of the type can be the centrepiece of the event at which well over 100 buses and coaches of all ages, types and colours are expected to attend," says co-organiser Richard Lewis. Besides the vehicles, which were built from 1972 to 1985, images of Leyland Nationals will feature in a continuous slide show playing throughout the event, and also in a live slide show. The first Leyland Nationals in south-east England were dual-door pre-production and early production examples delivered to the National Bus Company's London Country and Provincial fleets in 1972; two of the Provincial vehicles survive in preservation. "It seems incredible that 50 years have passed since I and many others caught our first glimpse of this revolutionary type of bus that was to be seen in large numbers all over the country" says Lewis. This year's festival, at the Kent Showground at Detling, near Maidstone, is part of the Kent County Agricultural Society's Heritage Transport Show which usually attracts over 700 cars, commercials and other vehicles. Besides Leyland Nationals, it is open to all makes and models of preserved and modern buses and coaches.
